Credit unions in Ohio

Credit union: The state of Ohio has 261 headquartered credit unions in the state. Those credit unions operate more than 700 active branch offices for their members. Those branch offices serve the more than 3 million Ohio residents who are part of a credit union. The largest credit union in the state is Wright-Patt credit union, with almost 400,000 members. Wright-Patt has been serving its community since 1932. There are many ways to join this cooperative, including geography, employment, and military service. 

Like so many other states, to join credit unions in Ohio, you must meet their membership requirements. Many limit membership to where you work, like Goodyear. Others are open only to those who work in certain professions, like firefighters. For residents who don’t meet those requirements, there are many that are community-based as well. Check to see what cooperatives serve your geographic area. 

Car insurance: Car insurance in Ohio is right around the national average. Prices do increase in the metro areas. Just because premiums are reasonable doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be on the lookout for a better policy. It’s always a good idea to save money when you can!

Ohio credit unions do not appear to underwrite their own car insurance policies. Many cooperatives partner with TruStage to provide discounted auto insurance policies to its members. TruStage is a well-known company that helps credit unions nationwide provide this service to their members.  If your bank doesn’t have a partnership with TruStage, see if they have any agreements at all with local companies or agents. If they don’t, see if they have any recommendations. Maybe they can suggest another credit union member to you who is an agent? This way, you can support a fellow credit union member. 

Car insurance is the law in Ohio. Drivers must carry a policy that covers bodily damage liability and property damage liability.
